Built to Spill // Isa Georgetti, Le Almeida

Indie rock legends Built to Spill return to Madison tonight to play the Majestic theatre.

After former Treepeople guitarist Doug Martsch founded the band in 1992 he told Spin Magazine in an interview that to keep the band sounding fresh and interesting he intended to change the band’s lineup for every record, with himself as the only consistent member. The group’s ever-changing lineup has become one of their many quirks and currently consists of front man Doug Martsch, Melanie Radford on Bass, and Teresa Asguerra on Drums. They have been playing together as a 3-piece since 2021.

Last year the band was (finally) signed to Sub Pop Records, a childhood dream come true for the Boise, Idaho based band despite their many successful years with Up and Warner Records. Since joining Sub Pop, Built to Spill released their ninth studio album When the Wind Forgets Your Name. The album was a collaboration between Martsch and Brazilian Psychedelic Jazz-rock band Oruã members Le Almeida and João Luiz. Oruã will be supporting Built to Spill for part of their North American tour this Fall.

While their sound varies throughout their discography, Built to Spill consistently delivers a captivating live show with blaring garage rock guitar riffs, psychedelic story-telling lyrics and a common sense of insanity. You can expect to hear the new album featured on this tour along with fan favorites that have kept heads bopping for decades.
