Son of Philadelphia and former lead guitarist of indie rock outfit The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile brought his band The Violators to rock the Sylvee on a late December night.

Following the critically acclaimed collaboration with Courtney Barnett, Lotta Sea Lice, Vile returned to his roots with his folk-rock release, Bottle It In. His stop in Madison was but another stepping stone in an extensive, 9-month-long North American tour promoting the album. However, that did not dampen Vile’s ringing guitar or Lou Reed-esque voice that filled the young venue. Fans filled the floor, dancing and singing along to hits like ‘Loading Zones’ and encore ‘Pretty Pimpin’.

May you be a fan of The War on Drugs, the Courtney Barnett collaboration, or his solo efforts with his band The Violators, Kurt Vile’s blend of matter-of-fact lyrics and hypnotic guitar provided a nice reprieve from the stale holiday music of the season and a great way to round out the year.
