Our favorite Philly-bred folk rockers Mt. Joy opened up the semester’s amazing lineup of live shows last Saturday night. The band played to a nearly sold-out crowd at Majestic Theatre, marking their second appearance at the venue.
Their set made it hard to believe that the band was ever an opener. Songs like “Sheep” and “Jenny Jenkins” remain hard-hitting crowd favorites, but the band has become more refined with the release of their debut earlier this year. One stand-out from this set was “Julia”, a sultry, falsetto-filled number that showcases Matt Quinn’s exceptional vocal tone.
Mt. Joy has had a whirlwind experience since the release of “Astrovan” in late 2016. This first single and those that followed introduced their infectious tunes to the world. Since then, their popularity has grown exponentially. Benefitting from viral success has definitely thrown this band into a crazy world of tours and festivals, but they have fully embraced and benefitted from their talent and the support of their fans.
